Hello beautiful mamas! Welcome back to MamaExpert. If your baby has suddenly turned into a fuss-machine and you’re left puzzled as to why, we might have an answer for you.  That’s right, your baby could be teething. Let's explore the 10 most common signs your baby is teething, so you can swap the guessing for comforting. Ready to become an expert in teething? Let’s get started!             1. Excessive Drooling   One of the earliest signs of teething is an increase in your baby's drooling. Your baby's body produces extra saliva to help lubricate the tender and swollen gums. This might result in constantly wet bibs and onesies. Keep some cloths handy to keep your little one comfortable and dry.   2. Chewing on Everything   If your usually placid baby suddenly starts chewing on anything they can get their hands on, teething could be the reason. This includes their fingers, toys, or even your fingers! The pressure from biting can offer them some temporary relief from the dis

Your Baby's Size Weight and Height: Growth Stages from Fetus to First Year

Hello, mama-to-be, and welcome to the world of parenthood! Today, let's embark on a fascinating journey together, tracing your little one's developmental stages, from the moment they're a tiny fetus till their first year. Please remember, every baby is unique, and their growth patterns can vary – and that's just fine!

During pregnancy, it's truly miraculous to witness how your baby evolves each week. Around the 20th week of pregnancy, your baby is likely to be just above 10 inches long, weighing a little under 12 ounces. Leap to the 32nd week, and they might be nearly 17 inches and weigh more than 4 pounds. That's quite a growth spurt, isn't it?

When it comes to assessing the size of your baby, multiple factors come into play. Doctors typically use calculations based on various measurements, such as the biparietal (head) diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC), and femur (thigh bone) length (FL). These measurements give a fair estimate of your baby's weight and height.

After the first trimester, the way babies measure height changes. Until week 13, the measurement is taken from the baby's head to the bottom. After week 13, it stretches from the baby's head to its heel, making it seem like your baby has grown 3 inches between week 13 and week 14!

While measuring your baby's growth, doctors often refer to Hadlock's chart, which is widely accepted by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal and Fetal Medicine (SMFM). But remember, every baby is unique, and your provider may tweak the estimations based on your individual circumstances.

It's fascinating to watch your baby's weight evolve. While your baby's weight gain is pretty consistent, the pace doesn't always remain the same. The rate of growth tends to speed up until 35 weeks and then decelerates.

Your healthcare provider keeps a tab on your baby's growth at your prenatal visits, measuring the size of your belly. By week 24, the measurement in centimeters usually corresponds with your baby's gestational age. In case your baby appears too small, they might conduct an ultrasound for a more accurate assessment.

Now let's fast-forward to the moment when your little one has already made their grand entrance into the world. After their first year, the pace of growth will slow down, but they'll continue to grow until they're in their late teens.

As a new mom, remember that this journey is yours and your baby's unique story. Each day will bring new milestones, delights, challenges, and lots of love. Cherish each moment, learn from them, and grow with them.
